olfactory ...

for the past few years i have gone through countless bottles of sugar & lemon sugar perfume by Fresh... there is just something about it that i love, the lemony, sugary, clean smelling sweetness that i just want to bathe in... and today for the first time, it occurred to me where this love stems from... the 80's were chock full of toys that smell... some bad, some good, some delicious...
(does anyone other than gabrielle remember the outhouse dolls? these were the most vile toys ever created and smelled like shit. seriously) ANYWAY... most people remember strawberry shortcake... we all had the tiny dolls, all the different fragrances- i even had the evil purple pie man... well, in addition to these small figures they made bigger dolls... the dolls were called blowkiss dolls and they had their little lips puckered in a kiss and when you squeezed their stomachs- scented air blew out of their mouths... (weird- i know- but it was the 80's) ... anyway- the one i had was lemon meringue... i would put my nose up to it and squeeze the life out of this doll and breathe it in deep (maybe i got high off it) but really, i would have eaten this doll if i could have... i am now convinced whoever is developing these fragrances for fresh is somehow associated with strawberry shortcake dolls- me and my olfactory nerve will get to the bottom of this...

  1. i had a He-Man action figure named "Moss Man," which was basically a Swamp Thing rip-off, kinda like a green half-gorilla/half-man that unlike other figures from the collection was covered entirely in green fuzz... but not only was it covered in green fuzz, the figure also had an odor to it. i suppose it was originally intended to smell like swamp skunk must, but i have since encountered that smell emanating from old ladies at church. apparently it is their perfume... or mothballs. who knows.
